Google parent Alphabet to lay off 12,000 employees, 6% of total workforce

Chief executive officer Sundar Pichai told employees in an email on Friday, writing that he takes “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here".

Pichai said in the note, "I am confident about the huge opportunity in front of us thanks to the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in AI."

Alphabet's big tech peers Amazon.com Inc, Meta Platforms Inc and Microsoft Corp have also announced layoffs impacting thousands of employees.

"The company will pay 80% advance bonus to eligible employees initially and the remainder in later months,"
